SIT 'N STITCH

First & Third Saturday of the Month
from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Hello Everyone
It is definitely spring at Jan’s house. Yesterday I left for the day and I noticed that my forsythia bush was just bare branches and as I drove to the shoppe I noticed that several people had lovely golden yellow flowers on there bushes, oh boo hoo. Then yesterday was a very nice warm day and this morning as I left the house I notices some little peeks of yellow flowers on my bush, WOW what a difference one really warm day can make. Kind of like when you are so down in the dumps you think the world can see a dark cloud over you; then someone offers you a warm smile and it is like the spring sunshine, you perk up and smile back and it is a great day. Please know I am sending warm smiles your way.

Milady’s Weekend
November 6-9, 2008

I think I can speak for most women when I say I love a Love Story. And this year we will be stitching several things created from the imaginations of our teachers after reading the Legend of Lover’s Leap. The tale is one of a Lenape Native American princess and her friend Hendrick Van Allen a member of the Dutch army assigned to duty in the new world in the area which now includes Delaware Water Gap, Pennsylvania.

Our Teachers

Lauren Sauer of Forget-Me-Nots in Stitches is offering us Hendrick’s token from his mother to the “Queen of the Forest” - Hendrick's mama embroidered a special envelope pocket for him to present to his friend, the beautiful and spirited Princess Winona, of the Leni Lenape tribe (later to be called the Delaware Indians). Mrs. Van Allen created her colorful 'token' for Hendrick's "Queen of the Forest", using the finest linen, and silk and cotton threads in the vibrant colors of the tulips, newly arrived from the mountains in distant Turkey, and causing a sensation in Amsterdam - red, purple, and yellow/orange, tamed and tempered with shades of Winona's favorite color - green.

Sadly, a search party of braves found it lying among the moss-covered rocks at the top of the mountain where Winona and Hendrick had spent the last moments of their lives together, expressing their affection for one another...

The kit includes 32-count 'Antique White" Belfast linen, Soie Cristale, 'Waterlilies' and Sampler Threads, ribbon, fusible interfacing, needles, clear and easy-to-follow charts, 'thread by thread, stitch by stitch' diagrams, text, plus all finishing/assembly instructions.

Space is provided on the inside pocket for personalization, and on the back panel for dating purposes. All the motifs used are inspired by those found on Dutch samplers from the 17th- and 18th-centuries.

Ann Pettit of Brightneedle has created a small reticule. Mountain Flowers is a small, lined reticule worked on hand-dyed Glenshee linen using Weeks, Gentle Art and Crescent Colors cotton floss. Specialty stitches include Jessica, Herringbone Variation, Sprat's Head Triangle, Ray Variation, Long and Pocono Fern Stitch. It is sized to hold a companion needlebook, your scissors and an oval cherry floss palette made by Miller Carpentry (included). It is worked in an overall-design style, using colors and specialty stitches that evoke the feel of the river and mountains. It is interestingly constructed with a stitched gusset and beaded side tabs and is fully lined. The needlebook is elegantly finished and held closed by a stitched strap, buttoned in place.

Betsy Stinner of Earth Threads Designs has a lovely sampler for us. "Love is a canvas furnished by nature and embroidered by imagination" is the phrase on the sampler. Betsy said she thinks it is a great phrase for us stitchers also. The piece is done on 30 count off white linen and the threads used are Needlepoint Silk, Gloriana Silk, and Pearl Cotton. There are several pulled threads sections. And I am sure Betsy will have quite a tale to tell us as we work our stitches.
